Restoration of Peak Filtration Performance

A clean filter is the foundation of clear, safe pool and hot tub water. Over time, cartridge pleats and sand media trap body oils, cosmetics, suntan lotions, calcium scale, and organic debris that normal backwashing or hosing cannot remove. Blue Horizons Filter Cleaner 1L is engineered to penetrate deep into filter media, dissolving stubborn buildup and restoring your system to peak operational efficiency.

Dual Action Descaling and Degreasing Formula

Standard hose rinsing removes surface particles, but leaves behind greasy films and mineral deposits that clog filter pores. This concentrated liquid formula combines powerful degreasing agents with mineral scale dissolvers. By breaking down bound contaminants, it opens up blocked flow channels, reduces pump backpressure, and ensures your sanitiser works effectively throughout the water column.

Extends Filter Media Lifespan

Regular deep cleaning prevents permanent blinding of cartridge fabric and stops sand media from channeling or calcifying into solid clumps. Integrating Blue Horizons Filter Cleaner into your routine maintenance schedule dramatically extends the functional life of cartridge elements and filter media, saving money on premature replacements and reducing chemical consumption.

Dosing & Application Instructions

For Pleated Cartridge Filters:

Initial Rinse: Remove the cartridge from the filter housing and hose off loose debris with fresh water.
Prepare Soak Solution: In a clean plastic bucket, add 1 litre of Blue Horizons Filter Cleaner to 9 litres of warm water to create a 10% cleaning solution.
Soak: Completely submerge the cartridge in the solution and allow it to soak for 8 to 12 hours (overnight soaking delivers best results).
Final Rinse: Remove the cartridge and hose thoroughly with clean water, ensuring all chemical foam and dislodged debris are rinsed away before returning it to service.

For Sand and Glass Media Filters:

Pre-Backwash: Perform a standard backwash to flush loose dirt, then turn off the filter pump.
Apply Chemical: Open the pump strainer lid and pour 1 litre of Filter Cleaner directly into the strainer basket. Alternatively, introduce it through the filter inspection point.
Distribute: Briefly switch the pump on for a few seconds to pull the cleaner into the filter bed, then turn the pump off immediately.
Soak Period: Leave the chemical inside the filter tank for 8 to 12 hours.
Flush: Perform a thorough backwash to waste until the sight glass runs completely clear, followed by a rinse cycle before returning to normal filtration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I deep clean my hot tub or pool filter? Hot tub cartridges should be deep cleaned with Filter Cleaner every 4 to 6 weeks, or sooner under heavy bather loads. Swimming pool sand or glass filters should be treated at least twice per season, typically at spring opening and autumn closure.

Can I use this filter cleaner on glass media? Yes. Blue Horizons Filter Cleaner is safe and effective for both traditional silica sand and crushed glass filter media, removing oil film and lime scale without damaging the media bed.

Why is it necessary to rinse the cartridge thoroughly after soaking? Rinsing removes the dissolved oils, scale, and residual chemical solution. Leaving cleaner residues on the cartridge can cause unwanted foaming or temporary water balance fluctuations when reinstalled into your pool or spa.

Will this product remove green algae stains from filter cartridges? Yes. The deep-cleaning action breaks down organic residues including dead algae particles embedded within the micro-fibres of the cartridge fabric.
