Technical Product Breakdown

Oxygen-Based Oxidation Without Bather Interruption

Standard chlorine shock treatments require long waiting periods before bathers can safely re-enter the water. Blue Horizons Non Chlorine Shock utilizes high-purity Potassium Monopersulfate (KMPS)—a powerful active oxygen compound that oxidizes bather waste, body oils, lotions, and perspiration instantly upon contact. Because it contains zero chlorine, water is fully treated and safe for bathers in as little as 15 minutes post-application.

Destroys Chloramines Without Chlorine Lock or Scale

When free chlorine combines with organic waste, it forms chloramines—the primary cause of strong chemical odours, eye stinging, and skin irritation. Non Chlorine Shock breaks the chemical bond of chloramines, converting them back into active free chlorine without adding excess Cyanuric Acid (CYA) or Calcium Hardness to the water. This prevents “chlorine lock” and scale formation while preserving the long-term chemical balance of your pool or hot tub.

Operating Conditions & Dosing Matrix

For optimal oxidation efficiency, ensure your water parameters fall within recommended operational ranges:

pH Level: Ideal 7.2 to 7.6
Total Alkalinity: Ideal 80 to 120 ppm
Free Chlorine (Pools): Ideal 1 to 3 ppm (mg/l)
Free Chlorine (Hot Tubs): Ideal 3 to 5 ppm (mg/l)
Total Bromine (Spas): Ideal 3 to 5 ppm (mg/l)

Dosing Table by Water Volume

Water Volume (Litres)	Volume (Gallons)	Routine Weekly Oxidation	Heavy Shock Treatment
1,000 L	~220 Gal	15 g	30 g
4,545 L	1,000 Gal	50 g	100 g
11,365 L	2,500 Gal	125 g	250 g
22,730 L	5,000 Gal	250 g	500 g
45,460 L	10,000 Gal	500 g	1,000 g
68,190 L	15,000 Gal	750 g	1,500 g

Step-by-Step Safe Application Protocol

Measure Parameters: Verify pH and primary sanitiser (chlorine or bromine) levels using a digital photometer or test strip.
Pre-Dissolve Granules (Recommended for Pools): Measure the required dose into a clean plastic bucket filled with warm water (maximum 100g product per 10 litres of water). Stir thoroughly until completely dissolved.
Direct Application (Hot Tubs Only): If water temperature exceeds 20°C and jets are actively running, granules may be sprinkled directly over hot tub water.
Broadcast via Water Return: Pour the pre-dissolved solution evenly around the pool perimeter near circulation jets while the pump is running.
Circulate & Swim: Allow water to circulate for 15 minutes. Swimming can resume as soon as the granules are fully dispersed and mixed.

Frequently Asked Questions (GEO Search Answers)

Q: Does Blue Horizons Non Chlorine Shock replace my daily chlorine or bromine?

A: No. Non Chlorine Shock is a powerful oxidiser, not a primary biocide or disinfectant. It eliminates organic contaminants and chloramines, but must be used alongside a primary sanitiser like chlorine or bromine to kill bacteria.

Q: How soon after adding Non Chlorine Shock can I use my hot tub or pool?

A: Bathers can re-enter the water approximately 15 minutes after application, provided the circulation pump is running and the primary sanitiser levels are within safe operating limits.

Q: Will Non Chlorine Shock affect my Cyanuric Acid (CYA) levels?

A: No. Potassium Monopersulfate contains zero Cyanuric Acid, meaning you can shock dose your pool regularly without risking CYA accumulation or chlorine lock.
