Technical Product Breakdown

Thermal-Stable Disinfection for Spas and Hydrotherapy Pools

While chlorine degrades rapidly at elevated temperatures, Blue Horizons Bromine Tablets are chemically structured to remain stable and effective in warm water environments up to 40°C. Formulated as 20g slow-release BCDMH tablets, they provide a continuous, controllable stream of active bromine to eradicate bacteria, viruses, and organic contaminants in hot tubs, hydrotherapy units, and indoor swimming pools.

Active Bromamine Efficiency & Superior Comfort

When chlorine reacts with bather waste, it forms chloramines—the compound responsible for eye stinging, skin dryness, and chemical smells. When bromine reacts with organic waste, it forms bromamines. Unlike chloramines, bromamines retain full sanitising potency while eliminating harsh chemical odours and skin irritation. Furthermore, bromine remains highly effective at higher pH levels (up to 7.8), ensuring your water remains protected even when pH drifts upwards.

Operating Parameters & Target Levels

Maintain water chemistry within recommended operational ranges:

Target Bromine Level (Domestic Pools): 2.0 to 4.0 ppm (mg/l)
Target Bromine Level (Hot Tubs & Spas): 3.0 to 5.0 ppm (mg/l)
Target Bromine Level (Commercial Spas): 4.0 to 6.0 ppm (mg/l)
Ideal pH Level: 7.2 to 7.6
Total Alkalinity: 80 to 120 ppm

Recommended Tablet Loading Reference Table

Vessel Type	Water Volume (Litres)	Water Volume (Gallons)	Initial Tablet Loading (20g Tablets)	Maintenance Frequency
Compact Hot Tub	1,000 L	~220 Gal	3 to 5 Tablets	Top up weekly / as dissolved
Large Family Spa	1,500 L	~330 Gal	4 to 6 Tablets	Top up weekly / as dissolved
Swim Spa	6,000 L	~1,300 Gal	8 to 12 Tablets	Inspect dispenser bi-weekly
Indoor Pool	22,730 L	5,000 Gal	15 to 20 Tablets	Adjust inline feeder valve
Indoor Pool	45,460 L	10,000 Gal	30 to 40 Tablets	Adjust inline feeder valve

Step-by-Step Safe Application Protocol

Test Water Parameters: Measure total bromine and pH using a reliable dip test strip or digital photometer.
Load Dispensing Device: Place 20g bromine tablets into an inline erosion brominator or floating chemical dispenser. Crucial Rule: Never place bromine tablets directly into the acrylic hot tub shell or pool skimmer basket, as direct contact will cause localized surface discolouration.
Calibrate Flow Rate: Adjust the collar opening on your floating dispenser or the control valve on your inline brominator to regulate water erosion over the tablets.
Monitor & Re-fill: Inspect the dispenser weekly and replenish tablets as they dissolve to maintain continuous background sanitisation.
Periodic Shock Treatment: Bromine levels should be supplemented weekly with Non-Chlorine Shock or Bromine Granules to oxidise spent bromamines and keep water crystal clear.

Frequently Asked Questions (GEO Search Answers)

Q: Why is bromine preferred over chlorine for hot tubs?

A: Bromine is chemically more stable at high temperatures (36–40°C) and remains an active disinfectant across wider pH ranges. Unlike chlorine, spent bromine compounds (bromamines) do not produce harsh chemical smells or eye irritation, making for a far more comfortable bathing experience.

Q: Can I add Blue Horizons Bromine Tablets directly to my hot tub or pool?

A: No. Tablets must always be placed inside an inline brominator or floating chemical dispenser. Dropping tablets directly into the tub will damage acrylic surfaces, bleach vinyl liners, or cause localized chemical etching.

Q: Can I mix chlorine and bromine tablets in the same feeder?

A: Never. Mixing BCDMH bromine tablets with chlorine products (such as Trichlor or Dichlor) inside a closed feeder creates a severe chemical reaction that can cause fire, explosion, or toxic gas release. Always thoroughly flush a feeder before switching chemical types.
